My car broke down the other day. Why don't planes break down?
What kind of car do you drive that broke down? It must be kind of old to have broken down hey?
Just the normal things that come with age, things wearing out, rubber getting brittle and losing its elasticity, leaking oil, battery terminals eroding, rust breaking out all over the shop.
Whew. It must be what, 10 years old? So you drive a 1993 car?
20 years old.. a 1983 car?.
Are you going to go flying soon?
A quick run down on the AVERAGE AGE of the most common planes.
BOEING
| B-727-1 | 37 Years | Average year this plane was built 1965 |
| B-737-C | 23 Years | 1981 |
| B-747-1 | 32 Years | 1972 |
| B-767-2 | 19 Years | 1985 |
So once again, you have the capability to form your own opinion. If you are forming that opinion solely on the information provided here, then you are not very intelligent. I have left out, that yes the planes are safety inspected, high routine maintenance and all the rest.
Still.... with that said.... the plane was built in 1965. Things do get old.
Use this page: http://av-info.faa.gov/GetFleetAge.asp to check out the age of the plane you are flying in. I did say flying, 38,000 feet or more above the ground. I wouldn't want to see it break down, for your sake.
